Thanksgiving

on Sunday, November 27, 2005

Matt had duty the day before Thanksgiving and they told him that he didnt have to go to Iraq. He didnt want to tell me over the phone so he waited until I went to pick him up on Thanksgiving Morning. Now that's something to be thankful for! He still has to go to school for 2 weeks. But I think I can manage lol.

Thanksgiving was great. Our friends who live next door came over. All FOUR of us helped cook. So it wasnt just girls or just guys. And we used both of our kitchens. It was really funny watching us run back and forth between each other's houses. The kids were loving it. They were just running around like we were.

Matt Might Go To Iraq

on Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Navy is trying to send Matt to Iraq. He had to write a letter requesting not to get sent and it went up his chain of command on Friday. His CO is behind him to stay here. Normally, we wouldnt argue about having to do that, but as most of you know, he JUST got home from a 13 month tour in Greece. And there is more to it than just that. There are several other reasons why he needs to stay here with us at the moment. Here's what his schedule would be:

November 26 - December 9: North Carolina for Training (he does this even if he doesnt go to Iraq)
December 10 - July 2006: Iraq
July 2006: Home for 2 weeks
July 2006 - October 2006: cruise on his boat for 3 months
October 2006: Home for 1 month
November 2006 - January 2006: cruise on his boat for 2 months

Who knows after that.

We havent heard back, if he is going or not. We may not find out until he is already in North Carolina. So Basically, this may or may not be our last week with him for quite awhile. And personally, I think he should get some leave time before he goes so that we can get our things in order. Even if it was just one or two days.

Today I had to go get a new ID and a POA. Its just so frustrating not knowing for sure and having to run around and prepare for it without having much time to actually get anything done. We havent told the kids yet. I dont really want to upset Austin until we know for sure. Cross your fingers that they dont send him.

Florida PTA Convention

on Monday, November 14, 2005

I went to the Florida PTA Convention November 11-13. I got to network with other PTA members in my county as well as some from other parts of the state. I went to two workshops that had to do with Membership. They were very informative and I hope to be able to increase our local unit's membership using the ideas that I learned at convention. During the 3 days we had 4 meetings to debate and vote on 2 platforms. One is our position on Taser Guns/Stun Devices used by law enforcement. The second was our position on Youth Gambling. There was very much debate on both issues but we finally came to a decision based on a majority vote.

PTA now supports the use of Taser Guns/Stun Devices in lew of a gun in a time that warrants deadly force and that there be more research on the effects of a taser on the human body and also that there be guidelines and training for the officers in the use of the taser gun/stun device. One mother stated that if her child was in trouble with the law and needed to be "taken down", she would rather take her chances with her child being stunned with a stun gun than the other option of shoot to kill with a gun.

As soon as they put it out, I will get the exact wording of the platforms and post them.

I really enjoyed the luncheon and the scholarship dinner during the weekend. Scholarship Dinner included a live auction of gift baskets and all proceeds go to scholarships for graduating seniors. Each county also preformed a skit for our entertainment. My county had our men dress up as cheerleaders and dance to that song Mickey. It was really funny. But unexpectedly, all these women started putting money in their outfits. And requested an encore. The Marines where having a birthday ball next door, and when the guys came back for the encore, they brought a couple of marines with them. Then women started stuffing money in the Marine's uniforms as well! It was really funny. And they all were told what it was for. The wives of the Marines where having a good time and taking lots of pictures. I have some pictures that I will post later. The next day we were told that our county raised over 800 dollars during that skit. And it wasnt even planned to raise money. It just turned into a big joke with a bunch of dollar bills. Overall, we raised $7352.00 that night. All of that money is for scholarships. And considering we had between 200 and 300 people there that night, that is awesome!

Well I've got to go, I'll write more about it all later and add some pictures too!

Halloween

on Thursday, November 03, 2005

We had a Halloween Party on Halloween Night. My friend Rachel and her family came over and our friend Sandy and her kids came over. Rachel lives right next door to me and she's really cool. Matt made burgers and hotdogs. Everything else was potluck. We fed the kids and then took them trick or treating. Somehow Me and the kids ended up losing everyone else. I guess they walked too slow for Breanna and Austin lol. We ended up on the OTHER side of housing when Austin decided he was too tired to go on. He whined and complained. And instead of listening to it for the next 30 mins it would take us to get home, I called Matt and asked him to pick us up when he was done handing out candy lol. So he did.

Here's the funny part. Rachel and Sandy got lost in our neighborhood and as we were on our way home, we spotted them. We asked them if they wanted a ride back. So we loaded up Matt, Sandy, Matthew, Kylie, Rachel's Mom, Rachel, Austin, Breanna, Tristen, Lil Austin, Elizabeth, AND ME in our van...PLUS 2 strollers... and then we drove 5 houses and we were home LMFAO! We didnt realize we were that close. It was pretty funny.

A lot of people ran out of candy pretty quickly. There were mobs of kids everywhere. People were walking in the street because there wasnt enough room on the sidewalks. And not once did I see a cop car...HMMM. You'd think they would have been out and about. But no. Matt said like 15-20 kids would come at once to trick or treat. It was crazy. But it was so much fun. Next year, we're going to get a lot more candy! And we'll order pizza or sub sandwiches instead of having a cookout lol.

Class Party

Well, Im room mom, so I got to plan out the Halloween Party. The kids participated in a Fall Parade with their costumes on. They had to be some sort of story book character. Austin was a Ninja. I guess he could have been from several different stories. But we werent to worried about being a certain book. After all of the classes paraded around, the coach played music and the whole school danced for awhile. Later on the kids got to do some activities that the coach put out for them. It was kind of like field day stuff. PE Activities and games. Then after that, we had our party in the classroom. I bought them all Pumpkin baskets to trick or treat with. And some neon glow sticks, blinking pumpkins, sticky gooey halloween objects...yuck...pencils, and some other crap lol. For Mrs Donlyn, we got her a nice box of assorted chocolates. She loved it. The kids all had a great time.

USS Halyburton Halloween Party

We went to Adventure Landing. We had tons of fun. We didnt get to do everything we wanted to do because we didnt have enough time. But the kids loved the Go Carts. Austin and Matt played Lazer Tag and they even let Breanna, Tristen and me go in and walk around and watch for free. It was really cool. Breanna played some video games the second time Matt and Austin played Lazer Tag and she hit a jackpot. She ended up getting 600 tickets from that ONE game. Pretty cool. Im guessing she takes after her Aunt Sarah from all those Chuck E Cheese outings. haha! She ended up with just under 1000 tickets. And she bought her and Austin some pretty cool stuff. We plan on going back to play some putt putt sometime soon!

Tristen was having fun too! Posted by Picasa
